5 Benefits of Staying Current on Internet Marketing Jobs
Staying up-to-date on the Internet marketing industry involves ongoing education in many different areas. New tools, strategies and tactics are emerging every day. Your time as an Internet marketer will be limited if you’re not committed to absorbing as much of it as possible.
Knowledge of employment trends is no exception. Knowing which jobs are available in the online marketing industry is a great way to gain some important insights within your current role. You don’t even have to be looking for a job to appreciate information such as:
Keeping the Pulse on the Industry.
Routinely exploring industry job boards reveals trends in hiring for specific positions. If you and everyone else in your market are looking for a good mobile developer, there probably isn’t enough talent to go around. Knowing this information in advance may allow you to adjust your recruitment strategies to ensure high-quality hires, especially when there is a shortage in talent.
Keeping the Pulse on Competition.
It’s astonishing how much your competitors are revealing about their online marketing strategies when they post job requisitions for new positions. Even one key new hire can indicate a fundamental shift in budgets, focus and marketing channels.
Understanding Your Worth.
Although not all Internet marketing job listings state salary and benefits, a fair amount of them do reveal total estimated compensation. Over time, you start to get a solid appreciation for what you’re worth relative to others in your industry. Understanding your value brings a level of objectivity to the topic of compensation when it comes up during your performance review.
Knowing Where Not to Work.
One of the strongest reasons to stay current on Internet marketing jobs is being able to recognize where not to work. Companies that have failed to wrap their head around online marketing often post positions such as Interactive Marketing Specialist, which require experience in everything from social media to SEO to Javascript. They won’t or can’t figure out how to make Internet marketing scale within their current organization, so they look for one person to handle it all. If you work for a company that fundamentally doesn’t understand online marketing, how can you expect to be fully appreciated for the work you do?
Finding or Appreciating Your Dream Job.
Last but not least, you’ll never find the job you’ve always wanted unless you look. Alternatively, it’s also likely that you won’t appreciate your current job as the one you’ve always wanted unless you’re looking at the jobs out there. Staying current may lead you to a new job and career advancement, or it may be that you learn to appreciate your current job for the excellent opportunity that it really is.
These are just a few benefits of staying current on Internet marketing jobs. What have you learned by staying current on the Internet marketing job market? Is reviewing job boards considered valuable research and education or should it be avoided for fear of your current employer finding out?
