Google AdWords Advertisers Gain Yet Another Analysis Tool with Search Funnels
Search Funnels are the latest in tracking wizardry announced by Google AdWords. This particular innovation allows advertisers to track the search behavior of their conversions over a period of time, rather than from the most recent click on Google.com.
In order for Search Funnel tracking to work, AdWords users must enable AdWords Conversion Tracking or import data from Google Analytics, which must include goals or transactions. Advertisers can then select from eight AdWords reports under the Reporting tab in the Conversions section., including: a top conversions report, Assisted Conversions, First and Last Click Analysis, Time Lag and Path Length. These are all related to an advertiser’s search history on Google.com. They show the advertiser the ads viewed and clicked by a converting visitor from several steps before the actual conversion, which can offer advertisers new insight into their key word targeting strategies. A clickthrough on an ad that doesn’t immediately result in a conversion is called an assist click. If a visitor clicks on several ads before eventually purchasing a product, Search Funnels track what key words led to the user’s conversion. These reports also track the number of assist clicks required to make a conversion and the amount of time that passes between the first ad view and a conversion.
