Bing Webmaster Tools Gets Makeover from the Ground Up

Microsoft has recently released a completely redesigned and retooled Bing Webmaster Tools. They have made the interface more user friendly as well as much more feature-rich. Some of the tools and features that have been highlighted include: Index Explorer, Submit URLs, Crawl Issues, and Block URLs.

The Bing Webmaster Tools have recently been rebuilt from the foundation upwards. After the initial release of Bing Webmaster Tools, Microsoft immediately reached out to the community and asked webmasters what improvements and tools that they wanted to be added. The recent release reflects the feedback that was most consistent. It included more transparency about how Bing indexes and crawls a website, improve control over the content that is being indexed, and additional tools and information about how to best optimize your website.

The recent release is not only more simplified in design, but also much more user friendly with its intuitive design. The key areas that were addressed are indexing, crawling, and traffic. Here is quick look at some of the biggest new features and improvements:

  • Index Explorer – You now get unprecedented access to look at Bing's index and verify what pages of your site has been indexed.
  • Submit URLs – You now can signal which URLs you want Bing to index.
  • Crawl Issues – You can use Crawl Issues to view the details about your redirects, exclusions, and malware that was found when Bing spiders crawled your website.
  • Block URLs – Block URLs can be used to tell Bing specific URLs that you do not want to be indexed.
  • Microsoft Silverlight 4 Integration – All of the new tools utilize Microsoft Silverlight 4 to enhance functionality. It will allow you to analyze up to six months worth a data including: indexing, crawling, and traffic data.
  • Automatic Upgrade – If you are already a using Bing Webmaster Tools, all of these new tools and features are automatically added to your account. This means that you do not need to create a new account to access this new functionality and usability.

It has also been announced that more feature additions are planned for near future, ideally within within the next few months.

i don't use bing webmaster tools only google's. I might try it now since bing will power yahoo's serps soon and get 1/3 of search market share.
