Hosting Providers Get an OS Just for Them with CloudLinux
CloudLinux is a just-introduced flavor of Linux built specifically for service providers. Its tools and architecture allow for increased redundancy and security, especially for web servers hosting multiple sites.
CloudLinux, created by Igor Seletskiy, a 13-year veteran in the industry, is a new open-source OS tailored specifically to service providers. CloudLinux, Inc., the parent company offers a variety of commercial support options.
The backbone of CloudLinux’s advanced server features is LVE technology, or lightweight virtual environments. This technology increases the efficiency of web servers while decreasing the risk that one website could bog down the entire system. LVE technology isolates each site, preventing one site from utilizing the bulk of server resources.
LVE technology also bolsters system security by ensuring that processes for each site run under a single user with its own container. In addition, scripts designed to slow the system or those that are poorly written will be unable to affect the system as a whole but will only slow down that particular site.
As with Redhat EL, CloudLinux offers full 24 hour, seven-day-a-week support via phone and web. It offers three levels of support: basic, standard and premium. Only premium offers 24-hour support for critical cases. All support levels enjoy unlimited support cases and response times within two business days for critical errors. Response times decrease to four business hours and two business hours for standard and premium levels, respectively. Less severe problems are handled on a longer time table.
Igor Seletskiy, founder of CloudLinux, has been developing cutting-edge products in the hosting industry for 13 years. In addition to CloudLinux, he also created H-Sphere, the first commercially available multi-server control panel; FreeVPS, a container-based virtualization product and SiteStudio, a browser-based website creation engine. He was also behind Webshell, the popular web-based file manager and CP+, a simple, single-server control panel.
CloudLinux ramped up quickly after its launch, partnering with six hosting service providers or resellers within the first 30 days. The OS can be downloaded and purchased at: http://www.cloudlinux.com.
