New Google Adwords Beta Feature Lets You Analyze Your Competition

Competitors
This tool allows you to compare the performance of your ads against all of your competition. It will let you know whether you need to do further optimization in order to maximize your ads impressions, CTR, and average ad position.

Google recently announced the release of a new AdWords feature that allows you to compare how your ads are performing against your competition. Currently, this feature is still in Beta mode so some improvements may be forthcoming. Currently, it is located under the “Opportunities” tab.

What Does This New Feature Do?

Currently, this tool can be used to track the previous two weeks of your ad campaigns. It breaks down your campaigns into all of the categories that your ad is in. The first thing that you need to do is choose the metric that you want to compare. Currently this can be either click, CTR (Click Through Rate), average ad position, and even total impressions. Next, you need to choose the categories that you want to look at.

The data will be presented to you in two different ways. The first is a bar graph and the other is a “competitive range” which used five segments to display how well you compare to others.

How Can This Data Help You?

The first benefit is that you will be able to see if your ads are performing as well or better than similar advertisers. This could be similar products, similar bids, and similar categories. Another benefit is that you can identify different areas that could use further optimization. Finally, you can look at additional categories and sub-categories that you can use to be more competitive within your current market.

Additional Facts That You May Want to Consider

  1. The information that you will be shown is only for the ads that are displayed on the search network. It does not include data from the content network (from publisher’s websites). This means that you will not get the full picture across all of your ads that are displayed, but rather just the ones that are displayed on the search network.
  2. All of the data is refreshed once a week. This means that it will not be real-time. However, all of the data is based on averages, so real-time data may not be necessary. This is done so that you will not be able to see individual competitors directly, which also protects your identity as well.

This new tool, while still in beta, looks very promising. It will make analyzing how you stack up against your competition much easier. Some changes may still be made before it is “officially” released, however it already has a number of advantages that many AdWords advertisers will find very helpful, and a huge time-saver.

WOW, this is a great

WOW, this is a great feature!!! I can wait for it to roll out worldwide. It will be great to compare my campaigns to competitors. My ctr in some campaigns is really low, while for same positions in other campaigns (different keyword and product offered) is much bettre. i don't think the copy is the problem, I tried a lot of variations and I know how to compile a good ad. I was wondering maybe simply some niches have lower CTR. Now I will be able to actually see if that's true.
