Two New Webmaster Tools Labs Features Launched
Riding the coattails of the success of Malware Details and Fetch as Googlebot, Google has done it again. Webmasters can now take advantage of two new tools in the Google Webmaster Tools Labs: Fetch as Googlebot Mobile and Create Your Sidewiki page owner entry. Let’s look at these two new tools and how they will benefit you.
Fetch as Googlebot Mobile
Those folks with mobile-specific sites will be really proud of Google for the Fetch as Googlebot Mobile tool. Following the release of Fetch as Googlebot, Google was inundated with requests from users who wanted to see their mobile-specific sites included in the interface. (Fetch allows users to see exactly what Google sees when looking at their pages). Google recently answered with the Fetch as Googlebot Mobile tool that is available in XHTML/WML and also cHTML. Mobile-specific sites now have the ability to fetch pages as Googlebot-Mobile. Kudos goes out to Google and developer Ryoichi Imaizumi for the effort.
Create Your Sidewiki Owner Entry
As you may recall, Sidewiki is a tool that allows users to add useful information to webpages via a sidebar in the Google toolbar or using a Chrome extension. Webmasters have the ability of creating a page owner entry that will appear above all other entries that are written by users. Following the launch of the Sidewiki option, webmasters requested that Google provide them with a way that they could put page owner entry on all of the pages of their sites more efficiently – thus the creation of Create Your Sidewiki. Using this new tool, webmasters can create owner entries from Webmaster Tools for any site that they own.
With the addition of these two tools, it is easy to see why Google continues to dominate the web and gets a big two thumbs up!
