Nominations Open for New and Improved Lineup at Packt Open Source Awards

Medals
Packt has opened nominations for its fifth annual Open Source Awards, with new categories for Most Promising Open Source Project, Open Source E-Commerce Applications, Open Source JavaScript Libraries and Open Source Graphics Software.

As of August 9, Packt has opened nominations for its 2010 Open Source Awards, which this year features four new categories in addition to the existing open source CMS and CMS Hall of Fame categories. The nomination process will continue until September 17.

Each category accepts nominations of any project that adheres to any of the open source licenses. The Hall of Fame CMS category is a special case, in which only systems that have previously won the Open Source CMS award are eligible. These include Joomla, Drupal and Wordpress.

The Most Promising Open Source Project category is for open-source projects that have not yet been released. The project release date must be two years or less from August 9, 2010 in order for the project to be considered.

Any open source web application that simplifies e-commerce processes is eligible to be nominated for the Open Source E-Commerce Applications category. E-commerce apps, frameworks, modules and extensions are all welcome. The e-commerce components of more general systems can also be included.

The Open Source JavaScript Libraries category includes open source JavaScript libraries on both the development and server sides. Libraries that allow for the quicker and easier development of rich internet applications, along with those that enhance server-side functionality, are equally eligible.

All open source applications and libraries that work with graphics can be nominated for the Open Source Graphics Software category. This includes graphic creation and editing apps, graphic libraries and graphics display tools.

Nominators also have a chance to win an Amazon Kindle upon submission of their nominees. Nominations close September 17, and voting on the top five nominations in each category starts September 27. Voting ends November 5, and winners will be announced on November 15. All Nominations for the 2010 Packt Open Source Awards must be submitted through the Packt website at: http://www.packtpub.com/open-source-awards-home/nominations.
